TAIGA ENVIRONMENT

A sub-tundra like environment makes up about a quarter of the park. The taiga landscape here was probably created through a combination of the last ice-age and ancient wildfires. The top of the highland plateau is now a mix of bogs and barrens covered in scruby stunted trees, specially adapted plants and lichens that once fed herds of caribou.
